Tradesmen will have a range of tools that assist them with completing the daily tasks that constitute their working profession. Plumbers are no exception to this rule and will have a selection of tools both mechanical and mundane that enable them to diagnose an issue with your plumbing and fix that problem once detected.

If asked what the most essential tool a plumber can possess to enable her to undertake her job, many plumbers may say a pipe wrench, or spare pipe, or even pliers. But the most overlooked yet essential tool for an emergency plumber is a well-maintained vehicle. Without this essential tool of the trade a plumber could not carry all of the remaining gear to where it needs to be – your home!

So once an emergency plumber arrives at your home, what does she do then? Well she will have to diagnose the problem. This can be as simple as following one’s nose to the source of stench, or the water trail leading to a broken pipe or it may be more complex, requiring sophisticated diagnostic tools. A leak detector may be used to find that mysterious dribble, pipe locators and water pressure gauges are also commonly used by plumbers in an effort to detect an ongoing issue with your plumbing. Perhaps the most complex and sophisticated piece of gear a plumber will have at her disposal will be an ultra sonic leak detection system. This high tech gadget detects the turbulence in the pipes and can ascertain if the flow of water is disturbed by blockages and leaks.

Yet as sophisticated as these tools may be, nothing quite replaces the old pipe wrench as an essential piece of plumbing kit. This crucial piece of gear will allow a plumber to rotate and remove blocked pipes and hold pipes stable whilst working on them. This essential gadget was invented in 1888 by Johan Johansson a Swedish inventor, and is sometimes known in Europe as a Swedish wrench.

There are a host of tools that a plumber will maintain to treat any problem they may encounter at your home. Perhaps the most commonly associated with the plumbing profession would be the plumbers snake, or as it was originally named – the Roto-Rooter. This heavy duty piece of gear is a motorised auger attached to a flexible wire that a plumber with slide into a suspect drain and use it to remove any obstructions that lie within.  There are a range of attachments that may be used to clear a many types of blockages, but the three main methods of obstruction removal are; the head will punch through any debris and break it up allowing it to pass down the pipes and way. The head may dig into the obstruction and allow it to be drawn back out of the pipe, or built up matter will be scrapped from the walls by the flailing wire.

The most effective tool a plumber has is a well versed education in her profession, she knows how to do the job at hand from years of experience and practice.
